  Very strange object. Looks like a calabash with a blue edge. Perhaps the result of a merging process? Never seen something similar before.

  Yep, it is a sim from the Illustris data set and in these images the blue/white smudges are star forming areas in the galaxy.

  Uneven, rough border with lighter color then central part of mass. Irregular shape with color variations ranging from tan to white
