Super weird. What is it? Looks either like a spiral at an extremely odd angle or a nebula of some sort... Very strange. #weird #notagalaxy?

True, starry spiral of some sort seemingly BEHIND the item SDSS identified! (the green dot) - hence, are we all technically wrong?

#IC 5243; the green dot superimposed on this #barred #starburst #spiral is a FOREGROUND star, well within our Milky Way galaxy. (1/2)

Star mergers are extremely rare events and typically only occur in extreme stellar-dense environments, like globular clusters (2/2)

Yes, in this case the SDSS pipeline probably got confused because the foreground star happens to appear close to the center of the galaxy.
