  Maybe a merger? It looks as if lower elliptical (?) has eaten/split one of the arms (and maybe disturbed the other to be less tight)?

  I agree, galaxy collision. One arm of the big galaxy had been torn apart by the smaller galaxy (probably an elliptical galaxy).
