Haven't we seen this image recently? Someone described it as a box with a lid.

Yeah multiple photometric objects usually result in multiple GZ subjects. But let's forget that and celebrate we've discovered this galaxy!

I wonder how you go about finding all those images of the same GZ subject?

    Posted

  • Ghost_Sheep_SWR by Ghost_Sheep_SWR

Well this is a easy one since they are called the Taffy Galaxies, so searching Talk with Taffy sufficed. And also tags link them together

Also if you have the time and the urge to find them all it sometimes works to tweak a subject ID, they can be similar. See below for '5gm..'

Thanks! But to 'tweak' the subject ID seems timeconsuming to say the least - one would have to go through the whole alphabet, wouldn't one?

Yup, not my idea of a pastime 😃 But I'd start with the letters / numbers next to the one you already got, porobably faster results if works

This image seems very interesting, is that two galaxies? what about that green spot in the middle?

    Posted

  • Budgieye by Budgieye moderator

Green spots are hydrogen gas being heated by the force of the galaxy collision.
