This does look like an #edgeon galaxy, so features are not fully distinguishable.
This looks like a big blog of colour. Perhaps it's a merger, but I suppose it could also be a star.
There are interestingly purple, shiny objects around the galaxy. Probably unrelated, but certainly interesting.
