Galaxy Zoo Talk
Quite a gravity battle going on! The edge-on gxy doesn't seem that disturbed, but there's a lot of debris; the other gxy is distorted.
Never seen anything quite like this. Maybe the photographic color is off? Huge RED ring around bright inner ring & core. A failed spiral?
What a spectacular object! A galaxy with a bar trying to become a spiral? It has a slight wiggle - and disturbance.
What is the oval ring of blue balls? It's awfully symmetrical for an overlap. Some unknown kind of lens? An alien messaging structure?
Hard to figure how this came about. Unusual. A ring in early state of formation? No bar. Inner area cleared out but for dust. Spiral.
#Dustlane. But it's almost as if the dustlane is an overlap that got perfectly aligned with an oblong elliptical 'behind' it. 2 objects?
It's SQUARE!
Another synthetic image. What is the point?
Ah, heck! Such a beauty!
A LightSaber?
#doublering Started as a spiral. Something disconnected the arms from the bulge. Gold dust betw arms & bulge. Elegant galaxy!
One of the more bizarre objects I've seen. A bar-shaped #AGN. A #spiral turning into a #ring?
Odd, beautiful spiral - like a piece of Celtic jewelry. What could be causing this peculiar, tightly-wound snake & clumps shape?
could be part of a #lens on the left out from the ellipitical at 9:00.
I ID-ed it as 1-arm #spiral, disturbed by #merger, but It's very unusual looking. Lattice could be #artifact. #Ring forming in center.
#merger Wow! Spectacular merger...or something. The debris speaks merger but it's unusual looking. Overlap w debris from other cause?
Whoa! This is bizarre. Are those 3 pixies at 11:00 clearing out a ring?
Wow! Great merger! I read left object as messed up spiral w a bar. Right obj is just messed up. Is small pink obj in play? #merger
What the heck is THAT? White ball might be overlap. Blue ball may be merging w cloud. But what is that dark streak on left? Odd object!
Love this one! Boy, did that spiral get knocked out of whack! Big bully near by?
Whoa! Fascinating object! Triple merger? Lens? Unusual overlap? Luminous ferret-god spying on us from a parallel universe?
Intriguing object! Failed spiral? Overlap (bulge & dust cloud)? Big disturbance nearby ripping it apart?
Beautiful spiral! Re: ring at the center, at start of the 2 arms. Does the bulge have insufficient gravity to make a bar & retain form?
Unusual object. Hard to classify. Ring? Failed spiral? Merger? All three? Transitional clumps to spiral to ring?
Looks like a larval spiral galaxy. Seems to have tidal debris to an overlapping star (or whatever the bright bulb is), at 2 o'clock.
Very unusual looking. Are the disturbed oval elliptical and the long streak of stars (or debris) related?
I don't think that crescent-moon shaped shadow is easily explained as an overlay or a merger. Could be arm of spiral but why is it dark?
What makes arms get square looking? Dusty spiral but very clear, defined bulge - almost as if bulge is super-imposed.
A very peculiar looking merger, if it is a merger (& not an overlay). Enormous amounts of dust that seem to loop the 2 cores together.
Why would such a dusty spiral have such a clear & defined bulge? Is it possible bulge is an overlay?
Edge-on galaxy has at least two bulges; looks clumpy but not all that disturbed. An ancient merger in its history? Cause of clumpiness?
That's the most messed up object I've ever seen at Galaxy Zoo. I have no idea what it is.
A very pretty, messed up galaxy! Trying to be a spiral but can't quite get the idea right.
Beautiful! A double ring.
This galaxy has it all: a ring, a 2nd ring, a bar, 2 bulges, a messed up spiral, a dust lane and lots of dust.
Faint ring around the bulge? And an overlap near the bulge?
Unusual blue ring. I think it started out as a 1-arm spiral.
What is that wedge shaped dark-dark area at 5 o'clock? Dark matter?
Startling! What's with that sticking up arm? It's like a giant mafia galaxy broke its elbows!
Now THERE is a merger with tidal debris, if ever there was one! Some here says "overlap." I don't think so - not with those tails. A merger.
Are the red streaks at 12:30 an artifact? Lovely ring-in-formation!
Hey, what is THAT?! Never saw anything like that before in many years of categorizing galaxies! A 'Triclops' with an amazing tail!
Transparent egg holding pieces of a spiral together like a broken embryo. What is that dark black divide, like a knife slicing a piece off?
I've never seen anything quite like this, an off-center elliptical, with no other body obviously influencing it.
Spectacular collision of at least 2, and maybe 4, galaxies. I'd like to know what's pulling that stretched out, upper arm or galaxy away.
The tidal debris would seem to say merger. My first thought was "train wreck."
What are those 2 jets shooting out of top of the spiral? Arms? Tidal debris? Obviously a disturbed spiral.
I'd say overlap except that the larger ellipse has structure and looks disturbed. A disturbed ring?
An AGN in a spiral galaxy becoming a ring.
I find these configurations of galaxies curious, like a mirror (or lens?) is duplicating, f.i., the 2 blue gal's and the 2 pink ones. ??
That is the sweetest merger I ever saw! Spiral galaxy's long arms embracing the little galaxy. Madonna & Child!
Pic artefact, or galaxy of dark matter descending from 11:00 to 3:00? That darkness is weird. Appears to be merger by mutual consent.
Aw, come on! Somebody photoshopped this pic to give us a laugh. The Worm From Outer Space!
I'm puzzled by these baubles that seem to get organized around a distant, bright ellipse like this one. Could this not be some sort of lens?
The menu that turned up didn't have "overlap" in it. The blue streak looks like an overlap, far away (toward us) in front of the elliptical
These elliptical/bauble configurations fascinate me. Maybe not bright enough for a lens, but I sense a relationship among objects.
This has some characteristics of a gravitational lens--the curve of the 2nd galaxy (at 9:00), and the bright main elliptical (as the lens).
1st thought: You're joking, right? This is truly bizarre. Ah, I see--it's a "simulated galaxy"! Back to the drawing board!
Oh my, my, my, my! What a beautiful spiral! Central object likely a star in our galaxy. Upper left edge-on or ellipse is likely far off.
A lovely ring-in-the-making! (What turns a spiral into a ring?)
What the heck is that perpendicular dust lane crossing the elliptical's horrizontal-shaped core? Spectacular pic in many ways.
What are all those dusty baubles around & touching the ellipse, and the shiny ball at 2:00 near the center? Merging? Overlapping?
Bending eastern arm (looks like an eagle riding a thermal!). What's causing the bend?
Some kind of "black pressure" from 12:00 to 3:00; distorts the ellipse. Lens-like object upper left corner. Swirl of baubles around ellipse.
Couple of bizarre things in this pic: the crown of blue baubles, the 'fading' bottom half of the object & the string of red dots at right.
I see the arm, but it looks like half a ring w a bar. Also noticeable: big oval of small galaxies (?) surrounding central object.
Disturbed, irregular edge-on, & possible merger (& with a BIG, BIG bulge) is how I categorized it. But I'm not sure. It's strange.
I have trouble distinguishing between an edge-on that is fuzzy like this (& no dust lane) and rounded-edge elliptical that is "cigar shaped.
I'm guessing a core merger w merger debris evident. Bright cores probably black holes; outer wisps might mean one galaxy is (was) a spiral
The Angel Gabriel? The Holy Ghost? The Holy Trinity? Very peculiar! I'm thinking some kind of lens...
Weird!
Could that be a quasar orchestrating this elegant ballet? Even if it's a star, could it be acting on the light (from 'behind')?
Awesome!
Wow! Spectacular spiral! And I love that alien spacecraft at the bottom left!
Wow, they're rockin' & rollin' out there in deep space!
Very unusual! A spiral designed by a Celtic monk?
A simulation, huh? I classified it as a ring galaxy, irregular. But I've never seen any galaxy with that strange core.
I love that "S" wiggle of matter trying to become a spiral! I wonder what the red arc at 5 o'clock is.
Looks like some god-like being left its measuring tape lying around. Otherwise, maybe a little merger going on?
This is a complicated disturbed spiral, with many strands and wisps of arms, & many candidates for disturbing objects.
Merger-ring-spiral. Unusual to have all three in one object.
Something unusual going on in this elliptical's bulge. Could be overlay (bright dot inside at 1:00) but my first thought was quasar
Whoa! That is unusual. Central object has bulges that make it seem doubled; then there's the BIG THING eating it. Triple merger?
Battlestar with huge twin dilithium engines on 'wing tips'?
Yet another elliptical with a huge bar & no spiral! Becoming a ring?
Sm. galaxies assembling to form a spiral. Unusual & primitive looking. NOT a lens. One lumpy clump w more clumps coming.
FANTASTIC! What a pic! Not sure what big arc is doing, seems to be bending away from other galaxies. ARE they merging? Not sure.
Okay, ya got me! What the heck is THAT? Small bright balls could be overlays, but WHAT ABOUT the huge bubble on rt and its sm. blue friend?
Very cool! They look like 1 billion-star attack cruisers! Wouldn't want to see THAT coming at me in deep space!
Wow! Look at that "tidal debris"! Long tail. Wrecked by something, probably elliptical at 11:00. Bright object probable overlay.
Or is it an edge-on spiral with a big halo?
Yet another elliptical w huge bar. Surely this is structure (old or developing).
Yet another elliptical with a big bar. I classified it as having structure; also, 2 spiral arms (that are dispersed/distorted).
Another elliptical with a 'developing' bar. What are we to make of these? I classified it as having structure.
Very unusual configuration. Elliptical ripping another elliptical apart? Possible overlay, but main elliptical seems affected by its guest.
OK, what am I to make of these ellipticals with huge bars in them? This one looks like it's wiggling into a spiral. Plus, merger & debris.
Distortion of sm. gal., as in G-lens, but no color clue. Is big gal. attracting/distorting sm. gal., or is it lensing it? Unusual!
Strange elliptical w two bulges & blue decor, plus bluish entourage in left corner of pic. Fun to think about those dancing black holes!
Dyson's Lightsaber?
I don't know how to classify this. Barred elliptical? Edge-on...bar? A merger also in progress.
The Universe is so...WIGGLY!
I've never seen anything quite like it. Edge-on (w big halo & no bulge)? A bar w no spiral? & those blue blobs at 11:00-12:00. Strange!
The big elliptical is distorting an edge-on spiral, is my guess.
I've never seen this kind of ring before-a ring in the shape of a flower. That fuzzball at 10:00 may be re-sculpting the spiral arms.
What an interesting configuration! Probably an overlap but still...
The central object is small, oval and maybe disturbed or merging with blue cloud at 9:00. Is this some kind of lens?
Candidate for funniest spiral in the Universe! (The oblong object at 6:00 seems to be causing the distortion-a merger.)
No disturbance in round elliptical, so could be overlay-one round & one cigar-shaped elliptical arbitrarily lined up. Or some kind of lens?
Bizarre irregular spiral-wild, colorful arms, one sticking straight up. And what is that blue bowling ball at 6:00? An overlay?
Both objects disturbed, so likely a merger. Haven't seen one like this before. Odd joining point, forming an "L." Bulges so distinct.
That is a very strange dust lane. It does not follow any contour of the galaxy. Seems almost an overlay. But... a free flying dust lane?
Merge? A strange one. Such thick, cloudy objects; so little fireworks. Could be an overlay, but central galaxy is so obviously disturbed.
Flabbergasting! What IS it? An edge-on...WHAT? No apparent spiral structure. Huge bulge (but not very bright). No dust lane. ???
Overlap? You mean, the blue bulge and the pink bulge are not related? They look like the same object--a merger trying to be a spiral.
I can see a bar and very loose 2-arm spiral, with 2 maybe 3 bulges and one arm trailing way off. Violent merger.
Well done, Universe! Bravo! But...what is it? It is far more than a ring, far more than an elliptical; no apparent disturbance; pristine..
I'd say yes, a merger. The light quality of the 2 cores seems similar, as if they're next to each other. However, there is no disturbance.
Looks like a spread-out 1-arm spiral becoming a ring. The bright core is almost, but not quite, a bar. Beautiful colors! Very unusual.
Very unusual! Could be triple merger. That big dark swath from 1:00 to 5:00, with stars bleeding away, speaks collision. Spectacular!
If it's a merger, it's the strangest one I've ever seen at Galaxy Zoo, and I think that might be a lens arc at 5 o'clock.
Main obj: 2 black holes merging in what WAS a 2-arm spiral, and that merging with the smaller objects at 2:00. ??? What a mess!
I see a possible arc (blue, at 5:00--could be part of small galaxy's blue halo). And a smudge near ellipse center (at 8:00). Lens? Merge? ??
Space dragon? New life form? What IS it? Spiral gone wild! What is pulling it apart?
Lens?
Very unusual coloring and some odd objects such as the long blue shape at 6:00. The green in the ellipse at 12:00 is intriguing.
Why does this galaxy make me want to laugh? It's SO torn between being a spiral or being a ring! Its indecision is funny.
There are some really weird things going on in space! Hard to say, about the blue ball, but even without it, the object is puzzling.
So elegant!
I just love this little wiggle!
Wow! What a fantastic merger! These galaxies are like 2 lovers--Pyramus & Thisbe kissing through a wall.
Strange pink balls at symmetric points (3:00, 6:00, 9:00). Blue disturbance (4:00-5:00). Red object nearby. Busy elliptical!
I classified as spiral. It seems to have numerous arms but only slight swirl. Could it be a spiral without a black hole?
Strange things: the streaky look of the image; the red streak at top of galaxy and red ball (at 11:00); the red 'beard' at bottom.
Typical rounded elliptical...except for the utterly strange blue line streak below the galaxy. A lens? An artifact? What?
Are the blue globs (6:00 to 9:00) part of this elliptical, or far away and in 'front' of it? Puzzling image.
Blue crescent (at 7:00-9:00) an artifact, or an bizarre lens? It has a fainter blue echo at 2:00. What IS this? A quasar? A mere star?
The bright object = a MW star? The object 'behind' it is bizarre-a 1-armed spiral with an off-center, fuzzy, pink core? ???
No other comment on this strange image? What is the bright red dot? Is this elliptical merging w any of the many objects in the image?
I see a barred spiral w one arm being dragged north (by what?) and the other arm being destroyed by a merger (at 9:00).
I'm mystified. Is this a "star" that we're supposed to ignore (in the classifications)? A dazzlingly red elliptical? A ring? A merger?
Pyramid-shaped blob. Weird.
Interesting black streaks and entangled objects!
A star? An elliptical? What accounts for the brilliant red coloration?
Gorgeous! I wonder what is causing the haze. Could it be an overlay--a spiral and an ellipse that are not in contact?
What is that carrot-like object at 1:00? Color, shape & position seem odd. Could be overlay, but, if not...???
At first I thought they were unrelated, but the elliptical has a faint ring in it--influenced by the wild...um...spiral (?)?
THAT is bizarre!
Two forces ripping spiral apart (at 12:00 and 6:00) while spiral undergoes merger (two cores). Spectacular!
What is that wedge-shaped blackness at 10 o'clock?
Lens arc at 6:30 o'clock?
This ring's perfection seems unusual--unnatural--and it has an awfully big and bright bulge.
Spectacular object! I love how the Cosmos wiggles! I suspect that a smaller disturbed galaxy at 10:00 is merging/disturbing the large one.
It's like some obscure Chinese or Japanese hieroglyphic! Extraordinary object! A merger maybe? Such an elongated spiral plus internal ring.
That's quite an odd object in the upper R corner, with its v-shaped arms. I don't under the clumping categories. How to define the object?
very peculiar merger? an S-shaped clump on left, a rabbity-eared thing in center, bits here &there, & an elliptical that seems 'pulled.' ???
What a beauty! Is it a ring in the process of forming? That was my guess, for classifying. It's an unusual ellipse.
The classification categories just fall apart on this object. What is it? An alien spacecraft?
What the heck?! An edge-on trying to be a spiral? Big disturbance, for sure!
I said clumpy in a spiral shape, but I don't know quite what to make of it. The curl in the middle is odd. I also said merger w far clump.
There is nowhere in the "clumping" categories for this object, which has a smooth round 3/4 DISC "behind" the clumps. It's sun-like.
The program is totally inadequate for categorizing this object! It's an extraordinary bleeding of an elliptical's stars to form a blue arc!
The program permitted no option of gravitational lens. Surely this is a candidate!
A writhing spiral--in ecstasy or agony?--entwined with quite alluring and intriguing dust lanes.
What the heck? It looks like a corporate logo. Really, is this a joke?
Well, ain't that pretty! Complex, too. Double-ringed red core (evolving into bar?), two sweeping but disturbed arms, stars forming, debris!
I suspect the bright spot it's an overlay not a bulge. It's a very unusual object, in any case.
Beautiful and unusual ring. It's a ring and a "platter" (like a vinyl gold record) and a sort of optical illusion of different planes.
What IS the big pink blob? It's like no elliptical I've seen. The golden ellipt. seems to be bleeding light & debris. Merger? Lens? Mirage?
Unusual! Disturbed, detached-one-arm spiral turning into a ring. Detached from core. Two-arm but one of the arms got twisted around?
Odd lace of blue baubles draped over the top & tailing off; possible merger with gray blob. 1-arm spiral with lots going on?
Disturbed, merger, other, lens? What is that tail with blue blobs at 5:00 extending way out? What are the red blobs? What's in the corner?
Look at all that debris at 6:00 cascading down from the central galaxy & the distortion of that galaxy. I'd say, merger. An odd one!
The 2 eyes of the owl may not be merging but the 'bottom' eye IS merging with the largely unseen galaxy below.
Should be named "The Snail Galaxy"! Very unusual, one-armed tight barred spiral; not obviously disturbed but something's not right.
A "zoo" is it! What the heck is that exotic purple animal?
Is center object merging with, or lensing, the object at 1:00? Main object is very disturbed. Is it a triple merger? A merging cluster?
Beautiful! Something is disturbing the spiral shape, criss-crossing the arms.
You're kidding, right? WHAT is this?
An odd merger. The left elliptical is almost a ring, w bulge way off center. Right elliptical also off center. But no fireworks, no debris.
A star? But, but, but...
A beautiful and very disturbed 2-arm barred spiral, being pulled apart, it seems, by the elliptical. The fuzzball between seems flung out.
A blue arc below (5:00 to 7:00) and blue globs elsewhere. Is this disturbed elliptical a grav lens? But, lensing what?
An extraordinary merger, or perhaps an overlay, but that dust lane between the objects points to merger.
Holy Toledo! Ideas: collision of an edge-on (the upright) with a single arm, dusty lane, tight spiral, w debris at 7:00? Angry gods?
Evidence for a mirror universe?
I see a multiple merger (3) with all that debris, & possibly a grav lens.
Sometimes the Universe is simply whimsical!
What is that cascade/veil of light between apparent star (orange) and the 2 (merging?) ellipticals? Looks like a photo-shopped image!
I don't think the central object is a spiral. Rather, a bar with no arms, and not a ring. I considered edge-on but not dense enuf. Weird!
Looks like a two-eyed, one-horned flying purple people eater! Poor little loose spiral, tho, really got whacked.
3 galaxies, maybe 4 or 5. The central of the 2 largest has a distorted shape, flattened from 9:00 to 12:00. May be merger.
A disturbed, barred spiral w 2 arms, but with a 3rd something--arm, leg, missile, space ship?--in the dark disk from 5:00 to 7:00.
One of the strangest objects I've seen at GZ. A 1-arm spiral poking its core into a 2nd 1-arm's core, a if mating--snails mating!
Wow! What is THAT? Merger? Grav lens? It's got pink dust lanes draped over both objects. Object 1, white & blue. Object 2, yellow. Strange!
I'm wondering about the 3 pink dots and also the angularity of the spiral arms (not roundish, as usual).
Wow! Look at those dust lanes! I wonder what's causing them. Nothing obvious is disrupting this galaxy. Could they be overlap but from what?
Very strange ring! Looks like a Christmas wreath with a candle in it! The 2nd bulge (brite one) must've disrupted spiral & formed ring.
"Poor image" of WHAT? Url doesn't help. It's just more of the same. Is each of the clumps above a star? Why are they clumped?
How do spiral arms get going every which way like this? A disturbance in dark matter? Is this how rings evolve?
i see 4 to 6 galaxy cores merging in this photo. Gold & blue touching in bar. Gray bulge in arm. Blue & white in sm. spir. Brown ball. No?
The background ellipse doesn't seem affected by this bluish monster in the foreground. What is it?
Not your typical arc but an arc nonetheless. Is this an overlap coincidence, or the lensing of a distant blue smudge?
I wish we had a category for "galaxy cluster," and also one for "weird." This photo is just plain weird, like some colorful circus act.
Flash Gordon's rocket ship attacks Emperor Ming's dark star hideout in the Mongool Nebula!
I just want to add that this galaxy looks like a religious icon or celtic jewelry pendant. Very pretty!
Barred spiral and RING! I'm wondering if and how rings evolve from failed spirals.
What the heck! A day-glo barbell in space? What ARE those green balls? And the magenta stripe? Is it an overlay? But of WHAT?
Maybe an overlap, but LOOK at all that red spaghetti around what I might've said is a star. Hard to say if oblong ellipse is unaffected.
What a beautiful double ring! Inner ring is perfectly round; outer ring is an oval. Might've evolved from a spiral.
Intriguing object, with vast dark black lanes in the outer regions, and a faint arm extending way above it. Dark matter eating a spiral?
The large elliptical is disturbed, from 12:00 to 3:00. Points to merger. But there IS a blue arc, too, at 2:00, outside the smaller galx.
Wild! So many starforming blue baubles in both galaxies' arms. Merging! Maybe together they can make a bright bar and a black hole!
So much going on! I see it as an edge-on, with dust lane, but blowing up or something. Very unsettled.
Overlap? They seem obviously connected; even have an umbilical cord. A spectacular merger of young, hot, starforming spirals.
Hard to say if it has a bulge or not. I said yes--round bulge--but this bulge is unusual--dusty, not very bright. Something else going on?
Its single spiral arm is ghostly, in a wide arc around a barred core. Unusual!
Outrageous! Looks like a foetus, or strange sea creature.
The top galaxy has a weird, WEIRD "hat" or "hairdo" of strings of beads, like dredlocks--weird blue starforming strings. Merger, yes.
The lower galaxy is very off-center and has something merging with its core, below. Strange merger, if that. I even thought...lens?
Is a bar determined by shape or brightness? This has the shape of a bar but not much light. Pretty spiral!
Could be coincidental line-up of stars/ellipse but the ellipse looks disturbed & irregular. Is there a lens in there? A merger?
VERY disturbed barred (actually, T-squared) spiral with a dust lane like an edge-on and at least one arm flung way out. Merger damage?
Unusual hybrid of a bar, a ring, another half-ring (on top) & spiral arms emerging from the half-ring & criss-crossing.on the bottom. Wow!
I said tight spiral, one arm, disturbed, merger, w dust lanes--but it's a weird object, for sure. The red stripes are strange.
The twinning of objects near and around this elliptical suggests a gravitational lens, but it could be an overlay illusion.
Very disturbed barred spiral w single tight looping arm, trying to be a ring.
Aw, come on! This can't happen, can it? Has to be an unusual merger to create such distortions. And I'm thinking: dark matter sculpture.
It sure looks like an edge-on, but with what a whopping bulge! And I'm wondering about a lens.
Probably stars overlaying a distant ellipse, but couldn't help thinking "lens."
Looks to me like it was trying to be a spiral. Maybe a collision-merger is causing all the distortion.
An awfully bright bulge in this disburbed...ellipital? spiral? ring-in-formation? Distorted tidal debris around the merging object.
Wow! What a spectacular collision!
Extraordinary barred spiral! No bulge. How did it get this way? Very disturbed, it seems to me.
VERY ODD! Look at that ring of 'dark matter' all around the elliptical core, PLUS an apparent spiral arm--just one--extending way out!
Race of quadrillionaire super-aliens constructing their own artificial galaxy?
Lovely!
Very disturbed,. Near bigger disturbed spiral, a watermelon slice-shaped DARK region between them. Drunken party in this neck of the Cosmos!
That's a very odd object! Not a simple edge-on. There is an embedded, sculptured bulge, an INKY black dust-lane, & 2 small red shepherds.
V. unusual, w that long hooked trail of blue stars/gas below, a barred spiral in the middle, TWO gold bulges & more. What a spectacle!
Lordy, what a puzzle! Complicated mergers, plus are the 2 gold balls ONE distant elliptical? They seem to be 'behind' the spiral.
Very disturbed triple or quadruple merger (3 ellipticals, 1 'cigar') and/or a lens? Quite spectacular!
Probably a star overlay but the object at 4:00 is awfully bright and oddly colored and maybe dust-laned for a star.
Overlap of what onto what? An unusual object! An edge-on with an exploding bulge and a "dark matter" top hat? It looks like a human eye!
I've seen jet black streaks like this in various objects. No classif. box for it, other than "other." Too bad. These areas seem important.
One of the most bizarre objects I've ever seen! Must be a merger, but what a spectacular collision!
Lordy, what IS it? Triple merger of WHAT?
Definitely a cluster, but also a lens?
I think it actually has a bar (middle, pale yellow), & was trying to be a spiral, with 2 pale (blue, yellow) hot spots (candles). A merger?
What is that big black bulge in space that seems to be crushing the elliptical on L side?
I classified it as a lens but I'm not sure. Could just be overlays.
Very disturbed edge-on, with a piece of it (or of a merging object) hanging 'below' and an irregular dust lane. Unusual!
How can we classify it, with just this partial image? I was just guessing. Thanks to poster below for larger image (but too late to classify
Looks like a broken toy! I wonder what's going on (or went on) in the dark area between the broken arm & the spiral's bar.
Considerable disturbance in upper portion of the ellipse--an unusual lacey network. I wonder what's going on.
Could this be a lens (lensing some unusual green object)? Are green spots related to larger green lanes in bottom half of the ellipse?
What is that small bright red dot 'under' this edge-on? It made me look twice at the larger bright white ball on top.
A really messed up edge-on galaxy? Hard to classify.
Lovely ring! Disturbed on top and right side. Was once a aspiring spiral?
Yup, I see a reverse direction, too. Very complicated spiral--maybe a merger? I also see a ring forming.
Arc-shaped oddity, yes-and dark stripes down R side of the elliptical. The bright colored thing up top is an asteroid? Thanks!
This edge-on doesn't seem quite straight--seems slightly curved downward. It's also non-symmetrical--thinner on one end.
The larger pix is helpful (see below) (& thanks!) but this is still one of the oddest objects I've seen! It's like a misplaced spiral arm.
The round glowing ellipse seems remote, though an arm of the irregular, disturbed spiral seems to reach to it.Spiral seems to be foreground.
What can have happened to create this totally bizarre object? Mere disturbance by the blue ball at 12:00?
I'm wondering about the large red dust cloud above the central ellipse. The galaxies form a cluster, yes.
Could the colorflul arc on L side of photo be a lens arc? Ellipse seems distorted on the L, and has dark black lanes on the R. Odd image!
Black shadow from 9:00 to 11:00, knifing off the light. Two brown smudges at 3:00 & 8:00. Then that ultra-brite thing. Odd stuff.
Maybe I'm lens crazy, but I'm wondering about the 3-bulging bright objects at 11:00, & the ellipse 'behind' this bizarre blue object. Lens?
Edge-on galaxy with an odd overlap of square-sided star on left end and a wispy object near right end. Why is the star cut off that way?
The dust lanes at the outer edges of the ellipse seem like the arc of a lens. If not, it's a rather unusual ellipse with such dark rings.
Lens? Overlap? Merger? What's all that red about?
I thought some kind of weird gravitational lens, too--but the bright object is so star-like. What is distorting the ellipse?
Disturbed, irregular, ring-in-the-making merger--wow!
Fantastic and unusual! Intense blue at bottom. Off-shoot at top. WHAT is going on inside this strange object?
Galactic-scale Kama Sutra position? Incredibly beautiful. Never seen anything like it. What were Blue & Pink trying to become, initially?
Beautiful spiral-ring-merger! So elegant!
What the heck is that black U-shaped object (with a reddish interior) at 11 o'clock?
Extraordinary object!
Surely this is a gravitational lens.
What is the red-brown blob at 3:30? A merging object? Is it being lensed? Otherwise pristine elliptical.
Disturbed, yes. The two bright white balls? Are they the disturbers? Blue, star-forming smudge at 6 o'clock and in top arm. Very beautiful!
Unusual distant, bright elliptical spread out in irregular shape w possible mergers or lensing. Don't see this every day (ha-ha!).
What's going on with that red object and the big dark dust lanes at 3 to 5 o'clock? Lens? Merger? Overlap? All three?
2 bright ellipticals or quasars w a red ball seemingly squeezed between them? What is it?
Dark dust lanes at 3 o'clock. Seems to be mirroring twin elliipticals at 1:00 and 5:00, and mirroring gray balls at 4:00 and 8;:00. A lens?
Unusual! Is this just an overlap (two unrelated objects)? or are they interacting? merger? and what of that red blob at 1 o'clock?
Spectacular! Stunning! So beautiful! Hard to find adequate words. BIG collision; ring within a loose spiral on right; fireworks between.
Similar blue balls at 12 o'clock and 6 o'clock. Lens? or just overlao coincidence?
Looks like this spiral had one of its arms (or part of it) stripped off (blue matter at 6:00). Serious dust lanes, too. But very pretty!
Beautiful double ring!
This object is SO distorted that you wonder what could be twisting it up so wildly.
Bizarre! I can't fathom what this is. A weird lens?
Is that an arm sticking out, at a 45 degree angle, at 3 o'clock, or an overlapping edge-on galaxy
What the heck is this?
Stars can't merge? Then what does the brown halo signify, and the brown clumps from 3:00 to 6:00? Looks like quite a disturbed group.
There are THREE objects in the center. What is the blue object? Indication of a lens?
Is this some kind of bizarre lens? What are those 5 white objects? Foreground stars? Background quasars?
Seems to be a combination of an elliptical and a blue edge-on. Then there are those blue blobs at 7 o'clock
I wanted to mark this edge-on galaxy as "disturbed" due to ragged end on the right. But not sure if I should,
A ring with no bar (in itself unusual) but it might also be a lens. I'm wondering about that gray arc at 9 o'clock.
I think we are looking at a lens. The center elliptical seems undisturbed by the other objects but could be lensing them.
Improbable structure! Looks like a turning fork! Smashing merger.
The most beautiful irregular spiral I've ever seen--stairway to heaven!
Yup, special, & strange. Slightly edge-off with unusual dusty bulges, or an almost edge-on ring. It's not a cigar-shaped nada w no features.
We need to have a classification for "the funniest disturbed spirals" in the universe!
OMG! That is the strangest spiral I've ever seen, in years of Zoo classifications! Also, the most entertaining!
Looks like the transcendent, giant baby in "2001: A Space Odyessy"! What IS it? Is this merely a "merger"?
WHAT is that green object?!
Awesome! I've never seen a spiral quite like that! Yup, it looks like the elliptical is way "behind" it. But, an unusual configuration.
Who took a bite out of the cookie? Weird, dark matter-ish CHUNK carved out of the elliptical--sorta, kinda like an eclipse (a shadow).
Wow! A lot going on in this object--disturbed, irregular spiral merging w another spiral/ring, w a star in "foreground"?
The curve of the object at 5 o'clock makes me think that the elliptical is lensing.
Ditto! What is THAT? Could be merging ellipticals with a star "in front," with ellipticals merging in "background" or a ring or a lens???
Okay, what's THAT?
Very odd spiral! Definitely has a bar but arms are forming U's, maybe to become a ring?
A lens of some kind?
Unusual! Failing spiral trying to become a ring?
...except that the foreground star seems to have a wispy arm itself. Very tangled, disturbed object!
A failed spiral in the process of becoming a ring?
Dust lanes seem to link the two objects, but are they related? What is blue blob in lower object? Is this a lens?
I can't believe no one has commented on this. What the heck is going on with this object? Merger? Ring? Combo? Ring & elliptical unrelated?
Very strange object. Tight spiral produces tight ring, but wild open arms spinning around.
Stars in our galaxy? Aw, come on! Something is very wrong, of course...but what?
This seems very mysterious. Is it a lens? What is causing the darknesses down the sides of the elliptical?
Fantastic!
What is the blue-green streak at 10 o'clock on the central white ball?
What the heck is that huge pillar-like cloud on right side of the elliptical? A big lens? A big, weird merger?
What's going on in the upper lefthand corner with that blue pillar and gray ball (next to star)?
What is that chip of blue in the center? This is a very bizarre object. A spiral? A ring? Got really whacked by some passing galaxy?
The bright spots at each end of the bar seem unusual to me--haven't noticed that feature in rings before. Also, I see two rings.
Is this a lens?
Galactic lens, yes? (That blue ghost at 2 o'clock.)
Galactic lens, no?
I love spirals!
Thanks for the ref, george! Pretty pic!
Wild spiral, eh?
Matter goes blewy? (or reverse blewing?) Is it assembling or disassembling something (a spiral)?
What the heck are these Christmas balls?
WHAT is THIS?!
Ain't that pretty? Like a child's toy, with a little ball running around inside the ring!
Awesome image of perpendicular ring galaxies, either merging or superimposed. Doesn't seem enough debris for merge.
Very pretty baubles all around! Pretty baubles often seem to cascade from such bright ellipticals. Some sort of "lensing"?
Looks like a ring in formation (or deteriorating), so symmetrical but like a Medusa head (ring of snakes).
What are all those black "snakes" seeming to hang from this elliptical like a beard?
Object in upper right corner is very strange. A ring? A lens? What?
Strange ring of red stuff outlining this elliptical!
Stairway to the Crescent Moon and its Echo? STRANGE object! That echo image (sickle-like shape, twice) is bizarre.
Zoom in a bit, but not too far & there seems to be a big airy ring around the object, perhaps big, loose spiral arm?
WHAT is disturbing this spiral? That wedge-shaped blackness at about 5 o'clock that seems to have hijacked the spiral's lower arm?
What are those black...dust lanes (?) at the edges of the southern section?
What are those green and red balls?
A lens?
Schizophrenic galaxy--can't decide if it's a ring or a spiral.
?????????????
Are these golden balls merging, or aligned accidentally? Or is it an unusual lens?
Odd ringed galaxy. Ring attached to the bulge, emanating out from it, all surrounded by haze.
Double core surrounded by perfectly symmetrical puffball halo? What is it?
I am really, really baffled by these fuzzballs. Getting a lot of them from DB. Q's don't offer "clumps" as a choice. What are they?
What's the pink/green object "behind" the (?) star?
Baffling Christmas tree-like baubles! What are they?
Q's don't offer "clumps" as a choice. Seems like a line of "clumps," but what are these objects, and how are they related?
The Q's aren't working for objects like these. Don't offer me "clumps" as choice. What is this string of fuzz balls?
I checked 5 odd features for this. What the heck is it?
Christmas tree pretty! I'd swear these baubles were doubled by lensing.
Don't see that too often--distant bright ellipse w a chunk flying off. Must be that puffball at 1 o'clock.
I love brave little would-be spirals like this. Remind me of "The Little Engine That Could."
I see a bulge within the elliptical "behind" the yellow ball at 5:50 within the elliptical. Start of a spiral arm? Old collision?
What's with these 2 pals? Close? Pulling together? Collision course? Lensing each other? Part of a bigger cluster? Need wider context.
Are those 2 gray smudges to either "side" of the elliptical sign of lensing?
You gotta wonder if this cigar is being lensed by the distant bright elliptical (top).
Oh my, you brave little spiral--trying so hard!
Whoa! I think that ring of 4-5 baubles around the ellipse are being lensed, and maybe a lot of the other baubles in this pix.
WTF? I see a star but what the heck is going on BEHIND it? I need more context (wider pix) to even begin to guess.
I said smooth, round elliptical and possible lens. No arc that I can see but look at all those Christmas balls! (Mirroring?)
I said 3-arm spiral with a big bulge. Wild guess.
Poor messed up little spiral! Who did this to you?
I said spiral-its edges so messed up but tight in. But could be disturbed elliptical. More likely the latter except when you look close.
Oh you almost perfect beauty!
I said clumpy, 3 clumps (1 cut off at bottom) with merger-tidal debris but, heck, what AM I looking at? Not sure.
Oh, ain't you pretty--and a little weird!
I called it a round, smooth elliptical but what's all that green stuff scattered around the top of it? "Tidal debris"? Not related?
Looks like the small fuzzy ball at the bottom of pix really gave this galaxy a whack. Or is it the other way around?
Looks like a barred spiral was trying to form but didn't quite make it, or hasn't made it yet. Am I "seeing things"?
I see a spiral with 3, maybe 4, arms, and no bulge? Sure is hard to guess with so few pixels.
I wish we could choose "disturbed" for a round, smooth elliptical like this. I don't see a merging galaxy, or 'tidal debris."
What the heck IS this? I guessed round elliptical but now I'm seeing spiral arms or "tidal" disturbance?
Are these "clumps" or is this a very distant round but disturbed or merging elliptical?
I don't see an arc but I'm sure wondering about all those galaxies around this bright elliptical. Seems like a lot.
Pretty spiral! Has it been disturbed, or will it eventually pull that scattered arm into a tighter wheel? Will it disburse or coalesce?
Only 1 object in pix (brown glob at 2:30 o'clock) seems "close" enough to be a lensing effect, but are the 2 gray blobs "mirrored"?
What is the blue globule at end of one of the spiral arms? Is it disturbing the spiral, or/or adding matter that will enhance the spiral?
There seems to be some "mirroring" in the objects around this bright elliptical. Could it be lensing?
Damn, what is THAT?
Can't find tutorial on these smudge-type images. Am I supposed to guess that this is, oh, a disturbed, merging spiral w 5 arms & no bulge?
I can't find the tutorial that would help in categorizing these smudge type images. Last I was at the Zoo, there weren't any of these.
Lens?
Thanks!
Lens?
This edge-on doesn't seem quite straight--seems slightly curved downward. It's also non-symmetrical--thinner on one end.
The larger pix is helpful (see below) (& thanks!) but this is still one of the oddest objects I've seen! It's like a misplaced spiral arm.
Lens?
The round glowing ellipse seems remote, though an arm of the irregular, disturbed spiral seems to reach to it.Spiral seems to be foreground.
Lens?
Lens?
Lens?
Lens?
What the heck is this?
What the heck is this?
