It seems to be merging but how can I tell whether it is or whether one is simply further away than the other, thus not even close together?

Can't tell if it is a very vague galaxy or an artifact or maybe even a nebula?

Should I answer that this has a bulge, even though it doesn't actually "bulge" beyond the disk of the galaxy? Assuming this is a disk galaxy
