How do one tell if their the first human too see the galaxy?

When viewing galaxies information it has this information for some of them. Cross-identifications, catalog, First...does that mean I am the first human to view the galaxy if not how do I know if I am the first looking at the other data on it?

That would be interesting. If there was a feature showing how many people have seen that galaxy before you can claim to be the first seeing something. But then again, I can't really see the practical value on that other than bragging rights.

The FIRST flag on the SkyServer pages means there's a corresponding detection in the FIRST VLA survey - 'Faint Images of the Radio Sky at Twenty centimetres', VLA being the Very Large Array radio telescope.
See http://sundog.stsci.edu/ for more about the survey.
Unfortunately I don't know of a way for you to tell if you're the first person in the Zoo to look at something.
