Colours of Galaxies : a redshift chart
-
by Budgieye moderator
Different types of galaxies have different colours.
The colour of the galaxy changes with redshift, which is an indication of distance away.
elliptical galaxies - have white stars
spiral galaxies - have blue stars
compacts galaxies- produce ultraviolet light (UV) from young stars (star-forming galaxies)
OIII objects - produce emission lines from hot oxygen from supernova explosions
active nucleus - produce emission lines from hot hydrogen (Hα emissions)All these object have a spectral chart: Click on blue link.

Both helpful and interesting. I should really get around to making collections based on measured redshift.
