I have a position, how do I find which AGZ fields contain it (if any)?

  • JeanTate by JeanTate

To pick a random example, if I have the position (RA, Dec) (214.36078, -1.65253), how could I determine whether there is an AGZ field which contains this position, and if there is one, what is its name?

In this particular case, there is, and it's AGZ000edg1.

Same question, but for ASW fields.

Over in Radio Galaxy Zoo, we have had a way to do such searches, for over two years now, courtesy of Kyle Willett, I have a position, how do I find which ARG fields contain it (if any)? SOLUTION

Once you find an AGZ field, it's easy to see if there are Comments on it, whether it's included in one or Collections, what hashtags have been used, and so on.

Related question: if I have a position (RA, Dec), or an SDSS name (e.g. SDSS J141726.58-013909.0), or SDSS ObjId (e.g. 1237674602680222079), but not the name of an AGZ field, how can I find which Comments, Discussion threads, Collections etc mention it (if any)? Ditto for a GAMA name or ID. Etc.

My simple solution for this would be to have a single skymap for all of the astronomy zooniverses, and place location markers on objects which have been discussed. I have suggested it before to Zooniverse staff.

I don't think there is any way of following up the Galaxy Zoo IDs from ra, dec.
