Image limit in a collection

1000 seems to be the max limit of allowed images in a collection. My Favorites reached this mark today and I noticed that it did not go beyond when I added new images. I checked and found that the new images are added to the last page while older images are being removed from the first page of the collection.
Is this expected behaviour or a bug?
Not a problem, if 100 is the limit. I can always create a new favorites collection!
